Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity to Host Hard Hats & High Heels Fundraiser at Evergreen Lake House Evergreen, CO on September 23, 2026!

This lively event brings together community leaders, local businesses, and compassionate residents to raise critical funds for Blue Spruce Habitat’s home-building efforts in Idaho Springs, Evergreen, Conifer, and surrounding areas. These projects directly benefit local workers—including teachers, government employees, and healthcare professionals—by providing access to safe, stable, and affordable homes.

For over 35 years, Blue Spruce Habitat has grown into a movement powered by hundreds of volunteers contributing thousands of hours each year. This dedication has made it possible to build homes that help families build wealth, gain stability, and become integral contributors to our mountain communities.

Colorado continues to face a housing affordability crisis. Moneywise recently ranked Colorado as the 4th most challenging state for first-time homebuyers. Events like Hard Hats & High Heels help ensure that low-income families have access to the support and opportunities needed to thrive.

About Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity

Founded in 1990 by concerned local residents, Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity has been dedicated to addressing the need for affordable housing in our mountain communities for 35 years. We serve western Jefferson County, Clear Creek County, and parts of Park County, locating and purchasing land, engaging with volunteers, and constructing safe, affordable homes for local residents.

Building Affordable Homes

To date, Blue Spruce has built over 54 homes, with more construction planned on land already secured in Conifer, Evergreen, and Idaho Springs. We are currently building four homes, a powerful step forward in our mission to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Blue Spruce homeowners are local residents who are teachers, employees of local government, healthcare  workers and others. Blue Spruce is fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers who contribute thousands of hours a year building houses, helping with home repair and working at the ReStore.

Beyond Building Homes

While we're best known for building new homes, we also provide critical home repairs through our Home Repair Program. This initiative helps existing homeowners stay safely in their homes by completing an average of 20 essential repairs each year. Projects have included painting, deck repair, landscaping, fire mitigation, weatherization and minor exterior and interior repairs. In partnership with the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), we also offer an Aging-in-Place Program, assisting homeowners aged 65+ with modifications such as grab bars, improved lighting, and flooring repairs—ensuring seniors can continue living independently in safe and accessible spaces.
