A piece of GMC history: the Walkmen that started it all!
Gifted by the SikhNet team, this Sony Walkman was used in 1996/97 to digitize audio for the original Gurbani Archive.
Invest in a little piece of history. In the 1990s, the process of digitizing music was just beginning. SikhNet took old cassette tapes of Gurbani music (that people were just throwing away), and used the Sony Walkman to preserve the sounds in digital form. These audio tapes, some of which held recordings of live kirtan programs, became the foundation for today’s Gurbani Media Center.
25 years later, these Sony Walkmen are electronic anachronisms that are fully functioning. You can play cassette tapes, listen to the radio, and clip it to your belt to take with you on the go. SikhNet will include a few Gurbani cassette tapes with the Walkman, along with a personally signed note by Gurumustuk Singh describing its history.
